LSL Senior Sunday
Portmarnock made it three wins from their last three league games with a comfortable victory over Leixlip United on Sunday morning.
Porto took just one point from their opening four league games but have hit form and have collected all nine points available from their most recent league encounters and are up to seventh after they followed up a win over Mochtas with defeat of Leixlip.
The game started brightly with both teams creating some good chances.
Indeed Leixlip’s Mark Scanlan came close to breaking the deadlock, but Robbie Byrne tipped his fierce drive away for a corner.
Porto came close with efforts from Ray Whelehan and Sam O Connor during that period, but neither side could break the deadlock in a relatively open opening half hour.
The game eventually had a goal as on 35 minutes Cormac O’Leary headed home a Chris Burgess cross.
The home side took that lead into turn and started the second on the front foot. Burgess had a goal disallowed for offside before Noel McGinnty forced a brilliant save from Sean Muddiman.
Porto finally got a deserved second thanks to a fine strike from distance by Barry Caulfield.
O’Leary then made sure of the three points with his second and his sides third before a fierce header from Burgess put the icing on the cake.
