Forget a promotion playoff, Rivervalley Rangers earned passage back to the top flight by impressing in the board room rather than on the pitch.
The JSP learnt on Thursday that the Swords side had been chosen to replace East Wall Bessborough in AUL Premier next season after the popular Inner City side revealed they wouldn’t be fielding a Sunday side for the 2017/18 season.
Amateur football followers quickly assumed the side that finished third from bottom in the AUL’s top division last term were reinstated to the top flight because Premier B hadn’t thrown up a suitable candidate.
Most believed the fact fourth place Sheriff YC B can’t earn promotion by virtue of the fact their first team are already in the top flight along with fifth and sixth placed Castleknock Celtic and Trinity Donaghmede have departed for the LSL, the AUL just handed the spare spot to RVR.
However, the Dublin league revealed they went through an interview process before deciding who would take the tenth Premier A slot.
Raheny and Real Transilvania were also in contention, but after a round of ‘interviews’ the AUL Committee felt Rivervalley were best equip to deal with top flight life next term.
