LFA Junior Cup
Rivervalley Rangers – 2
North End Utd – 1
AUL Premier B side Rivervalley Rangers recorded a big result on Sunday by dumping Wexford big guns North End Utd out of the LFA Junior Cup.
For the second week in a week the Wexford champions suffered loss to a Dublin club and exited a major cup competition.
The visitors were missing four starters from last week’s big FAI Junior Cup game with Sheriff and were on the back foot in the early stages with Daniel Murphy going close and Steo Walsh hitting the post.
However, just before the break North End took the lead when Jason Murphy’s free kick from 25 yards took a deflection that sent ‘Valley keeper Conor Hurley the wrong way and nestled in the net.
In a tight second half the visitors looked to be heading for victory with just two minutes left of regulation time but Daniel Murphy was quick to react to a long ball over the top and slotted home the leveler.
Deep into stoppage time, midfielder Colly O’Brien hit an absolute thunderbolt off the underside of the bar from 30 yards. Time seemed to stand still and the calmest man in the complex, Ronan Murtagh nodded in the rebound to send the players, coaching staff and fans into a massive pile on by the corner flag.
