Rivervalley Rangers flowed into round six of the FAI Junior Cup sixth round putting Newcastle West to the Sword in Swords early Sunday morning.
Rangers have been in flying form in Dublin Airports neighbouring town this season, boasting a 100 percent AUL Senior Sunday record scoring 26 goals and conceding just one in seven league games.
They carried that impressive league form into the a cup competition that will be decided at the Aviva on May and hit no fewer than seven past Desmond League outfit Newcastle.
The home started as they meant to on and were ahead before two minutes had past. Paul Ryan converted a Mark O’Brien pass to get the ball rolling.
There was a longer wait from the next kick off for the next goal and Rangers had to wait just over 10 minutes for their next strike this time wide boy Colin O’Brien fired past the visiting net minder.
Two soon became three as Ciaran Lattin converted a penalty to put Rivervalley firmly in the driving. Shane Stack responded and gave West some hope at the turn.
All hopes of a comeback were extinguished with 30 minutes remaining when Aidan O’Sullivan reacted quickest come goal mouth scramble time.
Front man Ryan then grabbed his second and his sides fifth after good work from Daniel Murphy. By this time the game was over as a contest, but Rangers never took their foot off the gas and added further gloss to the score board. Substitute Murphy bagging a brace to leave the hosts in Seventh heaven.
Rangers face Limerick opposition in the next round, but have to travel West to take on respected Limerick District League outfit Regional.
