Leinster Junior Cup
Booth Road 3
A regular goal getter and a first timer helped Booth Road register an impressive Leinster Junior Cup win over the weekend.
Top scorer Philip Sheppard hit a brace and Nathan O’Callaghan scored his first goal for the club as the Clondalkin side defeated a strong Firhouse Clover outfit in Tallaght.
Former Cherry Orchard favourite Sheppard got the ball rolling. The in form front man plucked a Matthew Holland ball over the top from the sky and finished well to break the deadlock early doors.
The visitors continued to dominate and after Ryan O’Callaghan forced a good save from the Clover keeper Sheppard was denied twice one on one meaning Booth Road only took a single goal advantage into the turn.
Clover almost punished the away side for the misses after the break, but fired agonizingly across the face of goal not long after the restart.
Booth Road, who reached the last 16 of the FAI Junior last term, flirted with again with a second in a more open and even second half, but saw Sheppard hit the post via a spectacular volley before Mikey Collins uncharacteristically missed from six yards.
The visitors finally got some breathing space when Kelly rolled in Sheppard and the ever dangerous front man rounded the keeper to add to his impressive season tally.
Kelly was involved again as Booth Road put the game to bed. This time the midfielder opened up the home defence to allow O’Callaghan to score his first ever goal for the club.
