Firhouse Clover -4
Bangor Celtic- 2
Rory O’Connor made a welcome return from injury and proved the difference as Firhouse Clover defeated Bangor Celtic to a place in Round 2 of the Metro Cup on Sunday morning.
The former Glebe North, Tolka Rovers and Kilbarrack United front man hit a brace in a six goal game to ensure his side progressed.
Clover came out of the traps firing and opened a sizeable lead before the break.
O’Connor opened the scoring after nice play from Ryan Coombes allowed the striker to turn on to his right foot and finish superbly.
A few minutes later and the former Junior International was doubling his and his sides tally. This time Peter O’Donnell registered the assist as he went through on goal unselfishly passed to O’Connor to make two.
Just before the break a nice assist from Darren Forsyth at the edge of the box allowed Mick McLaughlin too loop home.
Bangor showed great spirit after the turn and fought their way back to within touching distance with two goals.
However, Ryan Coombes sealed the deal for the Tallaght side as he kept up his scoring record to put two back between the sides before full time.
