Two late Roche goals three minutes apart saw Liffey Wanderers keep the pressure on table toppers Tullamore.
Lee and Aidan Roche both scored after the 80 minute as Wanderers returned to winning ways in the league and banked three points that made sure they remained in touching distance of the league leaders.
UCD had battled their way back into the tie and a side that have had some good cup results of late looked on course for a point, but the Roche brothers both found the net late on as Liffey’s registered their seventh win of the season.
Liffey’s started well and were a goal to the good after just 13 minutes when young wide man Clayton Maher put the finishing touches on a fine team move.
12 minutes later and the visitors drew level via a set piece. Darren McConville headed home a Sean Coyne delivery to restore parity.
It remained level going into the break and up and until the 83 minute when the inform Lee Roche found the net.
The front, who now has 10 goals in three games, got two attempts at converting a free kick and fired home the re take.
Within three minutes and John Young’s men had a two goal cushion as Aidan Roche put the perfect finish on another well worked move.
It turned out that strike was needed as Conor Cannon headed home in the 90 minute for the Students.
