Aidan Roche popped up with his third cup goal in two games to ensure Liffery Wanderers progressed to the next round of the Metro Cup.
The live-wire front man scored twice in Wanderers FAI Intermediate victory over Athlone on Friday and was on hand to win the Pearse Street side a second successive cup game on Wednesday night.
Senior 1B side Mullingar did give the top flight side a bit of a scare, but one of three Roche brothers to play both for Liffey’s and in the League of Ireland completed a comeback with a 90 minute winner.
Mullingar actually took the lead in the Herald sponsored cup and took a goal lead into the break.
However, the new Senior Sunday outfit got back into the game thanks to a Sam Simpson strike. Simpson finished low into the bottom corner on 53 minutes to restore parity.
The game looked destined to end level after 90 minutes, but Roche popped up with the winner, lifting the ball over the advancing keeper and sending Wanderers into the next round.
