Munster Senior League Premier Division
Ireland assistant manager Roy Keane may not have found a replacement for record Irish goals scorer Robbie Keane in Mayfield on Wednesday night.
‘Keano’ decided to take in a Munster Senior League tie, but watched on as neither Mayfield or Avondale could find the back of the net.
‘Dale opened the defence of their league title with a goaless draw, but it wasn’t a draw of the bore kind.
Both sides had chances in a well supported clash the visitors hit the bar on 29 minutes via Danny O’Connell in new manager’s Ken Bruton’s first game in charge.
Avondale needed a brilliant Robert Birdsall save in the second half to stop them going behind. Avondale had the best of the second half and hit the woodwork three times in the final ten minutes.
Josh O’Shea skimmed the post twice while Danny O’Connell hit the crossabar with a header in the closing stages.
Meanwhile Ringmahon managed to secure a victory in a Tuesday night clash with Castleview. Dean Swords was the hero firing home the games only goal in the 82 minute.
