LSL Premier Saturday
Rush Athletic – 5
Mullingar Athletic – 0
Rush Athletic were crowned LSL Premier Saturday champions yesterday and in the process claimed their first league title in 14 years after they overran Mullingar Athletic 5-0 in a memorable team victory.
Strikes from Cian Savage and Bruce Ndjtang and a Mark Doyle hat-trick ensured that Rush, who are undefeated this season having claimed 52 points from a possible 54 so far, wrapped up the title with four games to spare.
Savage opened up the scoring inside the opening ten minutes when some quick Rush passing split open Mullingar’s defence allowing Savage to bear in on goal and score on the rebound after his initial shot was stopped.
Five minutes later, Doyle had his first of the game after he got on the end of a wicked Gary Powell cross.
Ndjtang was next to get his name on the scoresheet with what was possibly the goal of the afternoon. An electric one-touch passing counter-attack resulted in Ndjtang sliding the ball into the back of the net with a fine finish.
Doyle then added his second and third of the game to claim the match ball and make it 24 in total for the striker this season.
Captain Joey Kelly received the league trophy following the game to kick-off the deserved celebrations for a Rush side who have been nothing short of phenomenal throughout the season.
