LSL Senior Sunday
‘The Sand Man’ awoke Cherry Orchard’s season on Wednesday night.
Mark Sandford hit a brace to help his side defeat newly promoted Leixlip and register the first win of the new season in the process.
The new signing converted well twice as The Orchard made it four points from three games and leaves their Kildare opponents still awaiting 2017/18 points.
The former Shelbourne player opened his Orchard account and the scoring on 30 minutes from all of 35 yards.
Within 10 minutes and he was doubling the lead at Elmdale this time he got on the end of a Sean Dixon cross to give the hosts a cushion at the break.
The home side could have put the game to bed as both Josh Clifford and Anthony Shortt had chances, but the failed to convert meaning when Leixlip pulled one back with two minutes to go the hosts had to ensure they remained solid over the final few minutes.
