LSL Charlie Cahill Cup
Firhouse Clover – 2
Bluebell United – 3
Sean Byrne’s extra-time winner sent Bluebell United into the semi-finals of the LSL Cahill Cup after they edged Senior Sunday rivals Firhouse Clover 3-2 in a cracking game at IT Tallaght on Sunday morning.
It was the hosts who took the lead early on when Luke Walsh got on the end of a set piece before forcing the ball over the line from the penalty area to make it 1-0.
On 15 minutes Bluebell hit back after a wonder-goal from Keith Quinn tied up the game and that’s how it would stay going into the break.
The second-half remained tight and it wasn’t until the 92nd minute that the net would be left bulging once more. Shane Stritch fired home to give United what they thought would be the deciding goal.
However, two minutes later Clover ensured extra-time was required after a fantastic headed goal from Gerry Bambrick.
Penalties looked like a certainty as extra-time reached its conclusion, however, Byrne popped up with what was literally the last kick of the game to send The Bell through to the final four.
They will now meet LSL Senior 1 Sunday high-flyers Newbridge Town to play for a spot in the Cahill Cup final.
