LSL Senior Sunday
Swords Celtic registered the first win of the new season thanks two second half strikes on Wednesday.
Three days after their scoreless draw Brian McCarthy’s charges banked three points against the promoted side.
Mochtas dominated the ball early on and on 15 minutes Kenny Carr saw a shot saved by Stephen Trimble in the visiting net.
Former Newbridge attacker Carr thought he broke the deadlock 15 minutes later only for play to be called back for a hand ball and the sides went in scoreless at the turn.
Swords flirted with breaking the deadlock when Gavin Smith’s dead ball delivery caused havoc in the box. The ball was cleared after a goal mouth scramble with the Swords line calling for a penalty that wasn’t given.
Nine minutes into the second period and the home side got the break through. Former Shamrock Rovers and Crumlin United front man cushioned a header over the net minder and into the net.
Tom McCarthy flirted with leveling just five minutes later before Philly Hughes found the woodwork with a shot for Saints.
Swords hopes of securing points for the first time of the young season then evaporated when Graham Duff pulled down Dean Kelly just inside the box. The ref pointed to the spot issued Duff his marching orders, but Hughes fired the resulting spot kick over the top.
Mochtas finally got the cushion the desired when Karl Somers found Carr and the front man drove home to score his sides second and his first league goal for Mochtas.
