The rivalry between Ringsend’s St Patrick’s CY and Pearse Street’s Liffey Wanderers is something unique.
While neither set of fans or players will turn down the opportunity to go over the top bragging rights wise when the opportunity arises there is a great deal of mutual respect between the LSL clubs.
That might stem from the fact a host of players have wore both the green and white stripes and the blue strips over the years, but with Liffey Wanderers closing in on top level amateur football the competition for local players may increase and thus increase the rivalry somewhat.
The latest local to cross ‘the divide’ is Glen O’Connor. ‘Chucky’ has left the top flight side to join a number of fellow former CY players at LSL Senior 1 A hopefuls.
The defender would have been viewed as a CY stalwart and has served the club well over the last seven years. He hasn’t been a feature of late, but did start the season at left back, while playing centre back when needed.
A danger come set piece time, be it when standing over the ball or making himself big in the box it will be interesting to see where he fits in at a progressive Wanderers.
