LSL Senior 1B
Kilbarrack United – 6
St James Gate – 0
Kilbarrack United made a perfect start to life in Intermediate football.
The former AUL side’s Intermediate debut couldn’t have gone any better as they managed six without reply against St James Gate on Friday night.
While the result was resounding, the opening exchanges were cagy and indeed St James Gate could have been in front early with a couple of good chances.
The home side began to gain a foothold as the half wore on and opened the scoring just before the half hour mark when David Jackson crossed from the right and Eoin Fowler rose for what seemed like an eternity before looping his header perfectly over the keeper into the net.
Fowler doubled the advantage just two minutes later when Brian Mooney played a good through ball to set the Kilbarrack striker free and after keeper spilled the initial effort Fowler was on hand to slide home into an empty net.
With 41 on the clock it was three and easy as Aaron Brennan raced through on goal, cleverly flicked to turn inside and lay off to Anto McKay who curled the ball in off the post.
Just 10 minutes after the half time break Kilbarrack were four up and it was over as a contest. Gavin Gaughran’s through ball set Brennan away and the 16 year old striker outmuscled the Gate defender to retain possession before rifling home his first senior goal.
Kilbarrack manager Chris McDonnell emptied the bench making 5 substitutions with the game already in the bag.
Ten minutes later Kilbarrack got their fifth of the night when substitute Sean Beresford rounded the keeper and walked the ball into the next and he turned provider late on to slip in fellow substitute Alan Clarke, who had only stepped off a plane at 7pm and his journey was worth it as he hammered the ball into the net to seal the victory.
