LSL Major Sunday
Skerries Town FC – 3 (Lynch x2, Langan)
Enniskerry YC AFC – 2 (Conroy, Byrne)
Skerries banished the demons of a 5-1 loss in the reverse fixture and blew the LSL Major Sunday title race wide open on Sunday morning with a hard-fought win over Enniskerry.
The Wicklow outfit came into the game at Park Lane looking to bounce back following a shock loss to Mid Sutton but were undone by a dogged home side
Enniskerry began on top on a windy morning in North Fingal, but their lively strikeforce could not penetrate the well-marshalled Skerrie defence, led by the evergreen Niall Bolger.
Keith O’Callaghan was pushed forward into midfield for the Goats, and a crunching tackle from the captain eventually resulted in the ball falling to Sean Lynch who rolled his man and squeezed a shot inside the post to give Skerries the lead.
Lynch soon had his second of the game, and his twenty-fourth of the season, turning on the edge of the area and slamming a left-footed shot into the roof of the visitor’s net.
Enniskerry came out flying in the second half and soon pulled a goal back through a Paul Conroy header.
Moving to three at the back in search of an equaliser, Enniskerry were punished when dangerous Skerries winger Shane Langan found space and fired a deflected shot home .
Throwing all caution to the wind, the away side began to bombard the Skerries box and made it 3-2 via a stunning overhead kick from Glenn Byrne to set up a frantic final ten minutes.
Enniskerry continued to push but the resolute Skerries defence stood firm to secure a memorable win.
The LSL Major Sunday table now sees just four points separate the top five teams as an exhilarating run-in looms.
