David Somers hit a late winner to complete an impressive come from behind win for St Mochtas on Sunday morning.
Mochtas found themselves trailing after fellow Saints, Francis stormed into a two goal lead, but former the Tolka Rovers midfielder popped up in the 83 minute to ensure the promoted side secured their first win of the new Senior 1 season.
Francis got off to the perfect start and were ahead as early as the 4 minute when Gavin Smith deflected a visiting cross into his own net.
Lancaster came close to leveling just three minutes later, but his shot flew past the post. Things then went from bad to worse for the hosts as Youcef Belhout finished smartly to double the John Hyland Park outfits lead.
Mochtas didn’t panic, however and after a period of pressure halved the deficit on the stroke of half time. Somers finished neatly after brilliant approach work from Dean Thomas.
After Thomas had a goal disallowed for offside Karl Somers hit the crossbar as the home side made a bright start to the second period.
St. Francis always posed a threat going forward and came close to making it 3-1 when a header from a corner went just wide.
The hosts then introduced Glen Crowe hoping the League Of Ireland legend, who was returning from injury could spark a revival, but it was Thomas who leveled proceedings.
Thomas curled home a brilliant free kick to tie the game with 30 minutes to go.
An end to end battle ensued as both sides searched for the winner, which was finally came the way of the hosts as David Somers headed home his third goal in two games.
