LSL Senior Sunday
If anyone doubted Killester United’s title credentials they certainly won’t now.
Killester went into Sunday’s clash with the reigning champions four points clear of second place Crumlin at the top of the table. However, despite being the divisions form side some had pointed out that they needed to beat one of the ‘big boys’ to be deemed title contenders.
They certainly did that on Sunday morning as they put three past St Mochtas to make a serious statement of title intent.
The big man big man front pairing delivered with John Brophy hitting a brace and his fellow striker of size Lennie McMillian scoring the other as Killester inflicted a second successive league defeat on the Saints.
Mochtas actually starter rather bright with Dean Kelly having a header wide and a shot blocked well blocked wither side of a Philly Hughes effort.
However, it was the hosts who took the lead. On 18 minutes Brophy glanced a brilliant Sean Rodgers cross into the back of the net.
The hosts had a chance from a free soon after, but Mochtas closed the half strong with Kelly and Alan Mcgreal impressing.
Six minutes into the restart and Killester had a two goal cushion. Brophy broke onto to a goal kick and finished calmly past Morgan Cranley.
Six minutes later and the home side puffed the cushion up further as Lennie McMillian headed home a Terry McAuley delivery.
Mocthas didn’t give up and had some half chances via McGreal, Murphy and Luke Kelly, before McGreal hit the cross bar.
However, the hosts had the best chance of the final few but saw a shot come back off the post.
Nonetheless they registered a massive win and took three points that see them go seven points clear, albeit with games in hand over the chasing pack.
