LSL Senior Sunday
Drumcondra – 0
UCD – 4
UCD picked up their biggest win of the season to date in the first weekend of Senior Sunday football in 2017 as they breezed past Drumcondra by four goals to nil at Morton Stadium on Friday night.
In a close-knit opening half, it wasn’t until the stroke of half-time that the visitors grabbed their first of the night. Timmy Molloy picked up the ball 25 yards from goal before unleashing a stunning strike that flew into the net to ensure both sides’ team talks were drastically changed at the break.
It was The Students who picked up right where they left off in as the second period got underway. With Drumcondra reduced to ten men early on in the half, UCD took full advantage as Steve Dillon slotted home to make it 2-0 after 55 minutes.
Drumcondra then spurned a brilliant opportunity to gain a leeway back into the game when they were awarded a penalty ten minutes later only to be denied by a Gavin Sheridan save to keep the game at 2-0.
On 68 minutes UCD more or less sealed the three points when Mark Boland found space before firing the ball home to make it 3-0.
The visitors then added a bit of gloss to the scoreline as with five minutes to play Colm Feeney curled a free-kick into the net in off the post to complete the scoring.
The three points moves UCD up four places out of the relegation places and into 9th on 17 points, level with 7th placed Crumlin United. Drumcondra, meanwhile, fall into the drop zone on 14 points.
