Freebooters got the job done early on Sunday.
The KDL side hit six goals in an impressive opening hour to ensure the moved along the Road to the Aviva.
Callan did threaten a comeback and scored three late on, but that far behind it would have proved the greatest comeback since Lazarus had they managed to win the game.
‘Booters got off to a very impressive start and were a goal to the good thanks to Success Edogun on 10 minutes.
Five minutes later they top flight side were two to the good, this time Emmet Nugent with the goal. It was a case of three and easy two minutes shy of the half hour mark as Joe Banville scored for the dominant side.
The aptly named Success then completed his hat trick with two further strikes before the break and Freebooters looked on course for a record score.
When Jack Poyntz made it six on the hour a real rout looked on the card, but to Callan’s credit the fought back.
Goals on 68, 75 and 80 saw them close the margin, but proved only to dampen the damage already done.
