St Patricks Boys-1
Tom Talbot filled his boots in Carlow on Sunday.
The front man hit a hat hat trick as the AUL side registered impressive Leinster Junior Cup first round victory over St Patricks Boys.
The Pats of Carlow actually started the brighter and had a good opening 10 minutes.
However, before 13 minutes had passed they found themselves trailing when Talbot caught the keeper of his line to from 20 yards.
Kippure kept the pressure on and within eight minutes were two to the good.
The second effort was the epitome of back to front football. Net minder Dean Curley’s kick out was flicked on into the path of Robbie Monaghan and he rounded the keeper before rolling home.
Both sides exchanged chances over the next few minutes and Kippure had some fine Curly keeping to ensure their two goal lead was intact.
They had Talbot to thank for pushing that lead to three 10 minutes before the break as he finished well to put some day light between the sides at half time.
The visiting side produced some easy on the eye football after the break and by the hour mark had made sure the hosts had no chance of a comeback.
Talbot saved his best till last and secured his hat trick with a brilliant finish to make it four.
To their credit St Patrick’s Boys continued to battle and did pull one back with 15 mintues to go, but Kippure were never going to surrender their lead or their place in round two of the cup.
