LSL Senior Sunday
Newly promoted Newbridge jumped to second in the table thanks to one of the performances of the season to date on Wednesday.
Paul Perth’s charges welcomed table toppers and the divisions form side Killester United to Kildare on Wednesday and didn’t prove welcoming at all.
Town put three past Killester without reply to bank three points that saw them leap frog teams like Bluebell, Crumlin and Mochtas to move to second at this early stage.
Killester started well enough on a wet night and had the better of what could only be described as half chances in the opening 45 despite the fact Kenny Carr came close with a cheeky lob effort for the hosts.
However, it Newbridge who took a lead into the half time break.
Sven Biansumba made it two goals in two games when he headed home a Sean Byrne corner in injury time.
The second half saw the home side much hunger and they pressed Killester hard and within 11 minutes of the restart they found themselves two to the good.
This time some good Biansumba approach play afforded Byrne a tap in.
Killester to their credit battled and did try and force their way back into contention, but the home side sealed a massive win when Dave O’Riordan dinked over the keeper in the 89 minute.
The result see’s Newbridge move to second eight points off Killester in first. Some would argue the newly promoted side may find it hard to keep pace at the top, but they will be more than happy with their point haul to date and how they have adapted to top flight life.
