Nice one John!
Just a quick mail to say well done to John Chandler at Tolka Rovers. They looked to be dead and buried when he took over and he has done a great job at turning them around. They are not safe yet, but I think he will keep them up. He is a nice bloke too so I’m delighted for him. (Anon)
Sheriff still top dogs!
Find it very funny some people on this site are writing off Sheriff’s chances this year of doing well in the FAI Junior Cup. I think they are one of the best teams around and have been for a long time. Home draw in Dublin against a side they know inside out, I think they will be happy. (Anon)
A lack of respect for Avondale Utd
I see a lot of talk on here about the greatest amateur team in Ireland and not one mention of Avondale .This is the same team who won 4 FAI Intermediate cups in a row and and they also went the whole competition without conceding a goal in 2014 ,which itself is a outstanding achievement.
Even though in the last two seasons they haven’t done so well ,they have consistently gone to Dublin and beaten Crumlin, Sheriff, Tolka and Bluebell.
Now I am not completely blind and bias and I tip my hat to Crumlin and Sheriff who have always been outstanding and deserve plaudits for what they have done.
These are the top 3 amateur teams ever to grace football and we should be lucky to have them playing in our era (Gerry)
More requests for football in the sun.
I have to agree with that lad Wayne from Limerick about Summer football. Why we have not switched to it is beyond me. The only clubs that are getting regular football nowadays seems to be clubs that have Astros. How can it benefit anyone to have games called off nearly every week?
It is beyond me why the FAI can’t just come out and direct all leagues to play the summer season like the League of Ireland.
Can anyone tell me why they can’t do this? I’m baffled. (Ronan – Dublin)
LSL Vs AUL …
Well the debate has been well and truly settled now hasn’t it. The LSL is better than the AUL – FACT! Actually, I should rephrase that. The Crumlin ‘Saturday’ side is better than the best the AUL has to offer. Great result by the LSL lads on Wednesday night. It just goes to show you, you can’t beat a real team over a load of over hyped ‘stars’ from big clubs. Yup oura dat !!! (Rooster – Dublin)
LSL Oscar Traynor selection policy
I see the LSL beat the AUL in the Oscar Traynor last night and I would like to congratulate the team but I have a gripe with the LSL’s policy of selecting a club to represent the league. For two seasons now Crumlin have been chosen to play in the Oscar Traynor and I think it shows a total disrespect from the league towards other clubs and players who deserve a shot a representative football.
Before I get pulled up on it I know there were three Inchicore players in the side that beat the AUL but the point still stands about one club representing the league. It’s disrespectful to other clubs. (Jason – Dublin)
Home is where the heart is in FAI Intermediate Cup
My FAI Intermediate Cup Quarter Final predictions for you.
Letterkenny Rovers Vs Killester Utd – I fancy the Donegal side. Teams from there are doing well in Oscar Traynor, FAI Junior and now I think Rovers will continue that trend in the Inter Cup! – Plus, Killester’s form has been tripe of late. Home win!
Firhouse Clover Vs Ringmahon Rangers – I think this one goes to the Clover. All the Dublin sides have done very well against the Cork sides this year and Clover are on a great run of late. Home win!
Cherry Orchard Vs Portmarnock – You would have to fancy the Orchard in this one. Home advantage against a lower division side and Orchard are looking good this year. Home win!
Crumlin Utd Vs Bluebell Utd – I can’t wait for this one. The two top teams left in it and two favourites for the cup. Honestly, I think Crumlin will shade it. I know Bluebell beat them at Pearse Park a few weeks back but when Crumlin want to turn it on they can. Home Win! (Joey – Dublin)
Is the standard dropping?
Just a question to ask lads. Does anyone else think that the standard of amateur football is getting worse and worse As far as I can see its steadily declined since the days when I was playing (Early 2000’s).
Back in my day there were good teams but they always had a challenge for the league, unlike Sheriff now who seem to walk away with it without breaking a sweat each year.
Is it that teams have already lost before they go out against them and have no bottle for the battle or is it that the standard is just worse all around? Just an honest question. (David – Dublin)
