It won’t be celebrated like the All Hurling win, but Limerick has more sporting success to brag about after Darragh Rainsford picked up the JSP Player of the week gong.
After some deliberation we surmised Rainsford was the standout amateur performer across the country this weekend.
The former Limerick player was star man in a perfect 10 Pike Rovers performance.
Second tier side Cappamore Celtic were meant to prove a tricky test for Pike as they began their Munster Junior Cup defence.
However, it didn’t turn out that way as Mike Shiels men scored 10 on the road to progress to the second round with ease.
Key to the high scoring success was Rainsford, who joined Pike from Fairview over the Summer. The attacking midfielder hit a fine hat trick and set up two Jonathan Grant goals meaning he was directly involved in 50 percent of the FAI Junior Cup finalists 10 goals.
