Munster Champions Cup
Killarney Athletic 2
John Tierney hit an extra time winner to send Limerick side Janesboro into the Munster Champions Cup final.
Kerry District League champions Killarney Athletic provided much tougher opposition than most expected and after the sides shared four goals in an entertaining 90 minutes extra time was need.
Just when it looked like the tie would be decided from 12 yards and spot kicks the experienced Tierney won the game for the Limerick Premier champions.
Janesboro now face St Michaels of Tipperary in what should prove a glamour final.
Killarney started well and William Courtney had them ahead on 14 mintues.
Boro managed to draw level via attack minded wide man Aaron Nunan just 10 minutes short of half time.
It looked a case of cometh the hour cometh the man as Junior International and regular Limerick District League top scorer Shane Clarke added to his impressive season tally.
However, Athletic responded and were back level with just over five minutes remaining. Courtney found the net for a second time to force extra time.
Peno’s looked likely, but another of Boro’s go to men Tierney produced when it mattered most and fired Boro into the decider.
