Carew Park closed the gap on league leaders Janesboro with an impressive win over the season that finished closest to the reigning champions last season.
The 2015/16 title winners have established themselves a contenders after taking somewhat of a top end sabbatical last season- and they took advantage of Boro’s weekend of cup action to bank points and stay in contention along with the likes of Regional United, Pike Rovers and Ballynanty by defeating Nenagh.
Carew took the lead when Alex Purcell pounced as Kieran ‘Red’ Hanlon’s effort was blocked into his path.
Nenagh, who have been struggling to find top form in recent weeks were not to long about squaring things up and levelled via a neat Brian McGee finish.
Former Pike man John Connery then teed up Purcell and his put the side that excited the FAI Junior Cup to Pike last weekend back in front.
An exciting game saw Daniel Butler restore parity as the Tipp side responded well.
However, Hanlon who has been the hosts go to man this season moved closer to the 20 goal mark with another crucial strike before Jonathan Grant put the result beyond doubt.
