TSDL Week 2 preview
By Aidan Barry
Old Bridge v Peake Villa
The Bridge welcome Peake Villa to Clonmel on Sunday in what’s probably the game of the weekend in the TSDL. New manager Jocky Landers will be encouraged by what he saw in last weekend’s 2-1 defeat to champions Clonmel Celtic and will be confident of getting the 3 points here with a number of key players set to return. Peake Villa had a fine win against newly promoted Glengoole last week and Scott Holdsworth’s side will be in confident mood ahead of Sunday’s clash. Being at home, The Bridge will be slight favourites.
Cahir Park V St Michaels
It could be another difficult day for this young Cahir side but they will take confidence in their first half performance in their 4-1 defeat to Clonmel Town last week. St Michaels on the other hand will fully expect to make it 6 points out of 6 after their 4-1 demolition of Cashel last weekend. Irish internationals James Walsh, Chris Higgins and Paul Breen are at the top of their game and the Saints should have much too much class.
Cashel Town v Clonmel Town
Cashel were totally outclassed in Cooke Park against St Michaels last weekend and things aren’t likely to get any better in their first home game of the season against kingpins Clonmel Town. A couple of injuries for Cashel won’t help their cause and their small squad could suffer another heavy defeat this weekend. Jamie O’Flaherty’s Town side started very sluggishly last week against Cahir, but some positional changes at half time seemed to do the trick, with the switch of the experienced Paul Shanahan to right back working an absolute treat as Town coasted to a 4-1 victory. The return of Michael Quinlivan from his travels was also a big plus for Town, but he is likely to be missing this week due to GAA commitments, however, Town should still have enough for a comfortable victory here.
