Leinster Junior Cup
Arthur Griffith Park-2
Allan O’Kearney hit a late winner as Arthur Griffith Park kept maintained their sensational record against LSL’s sides on Saturday.
The UCFL Premier side have never lost to Leinster Senior League opposition and ensured that was the case again today with victory in the Leinster Junior Cup.
AGP beat Terenure to progress to the next round. The home side may have felt they did enough to win by a more comfortable margin, but after failing to open up a cushion were pegged back and needed an O’Kearney strike late on to seal the win.
The home side started the better and after creating a number of half chances found themselves in front just after 20 minutes had passed.
An inswinging Paddy Maher corner was send goalward by striker Shummer Mayanja and O’Kearney added the finishing touched.
Arthur Griffith continued to dominate possession, but some fine visiting keeping ensured they only had the one goal lead going into the last 20.
The LSL Major 1D side took advantage and found passage back into the tie via a one on one finish with 20 minutes to go.
However, Kearney made sure his side were in the hat for round 2 when he popped up to head home after another dangerous Maher set piece delivery with just five minutes to go.
The side, who reached the open draw of the FAI Junior two seasons ago only to be beaten by Salthill Devon, will have their 100 percent LSL record severely tested when they take on Firhouse Clover in the FAI Junior Cup on
