Usher Celtic were celebrating Liddy Cup success 24 hours before the final was scheduled to take place.
The Premier A title winners added a cup to their 2017/18 trophy haul without having to kick a ball.
Usher were set to play a mouthwatering decider against recent arch rivals Sheriff YC, but the side that defeated them in the First Ireland Cup couldn’t field.
Just two days after they beat Hardwicke to secure a final berth Sheriff revealed they couldn’t field a team for Friday’s final.
As a result Celtic were informed by an email sent by the AUL that they were this seasons Liddy Cup Champions.
Sheriff had hoped to get the decider rescheduled but the AUL powers that be confirmed the League Champions as cup winners.
Sheriff released the following statement confirming the situation:
“To all our supporters and fans due to attend the Liddy Cup Final tomorrow at 7pm versus Usher Celtic. We’re unable to field a team due to our players going on their end of season holidays and our Premier B team being cup tied.
We have tried to work with Usher and the AUL to reschedule the final however Usher are unable to facilitate the alternative dates proposed.
We’re still working with all involved to reschedule the cup final for a later date and hope to have this show piece final take place.
As soon as we have a resolution we will provide you with an update.
