FAI Junior Cup
Usher Celtic were ushered along the Road to the Aviva thanks to a strong second half showing in Dundalk on Sunday.
The AUL Premier A side went in level at the break with the Muirhevnamor, but ensured they were not the NEFL side’s third Dublin scalp with by converting twice in the second half to ensure progression.
The home side got the better of the early exchanges, but the likes of Chris Caulfield, Tiarnan Mulvenna and Karl Lynam came close to no avail.
The home side then felt a red card should have been issued when Mulvenna was taken down as he tried to break through on goal. However, the referee banished a yellow and a real niggle crept into the clash.
Usher finally got to grips with the pace of the tie and began to take control. Irish amateur International Jordan Buckley, who top scored in the Premier A last season, hit the post as Usher started to create.
Another of Usher’s International’s then broke the deadlock putting his side a goal to the good on 19 minutes.
Stephen Donnelly collected a clever Ger Jordan pass, rounded the keeper and rolled home.
The Mor were back level within less than five minutes as Smith headed home come set piece time to send the sides in all square at the turn.
Usher enjoyed the better start to the second period and went ahead for the second time when Derek Flood fired home a Buckley corner.
Muirhevnamor did attempt a response, but in the dying stages The Hitman struck again, Tomo Cooney pouncing on a stray pass across the box before firing past the home net minder.
