Willow Park FC have promoted from within rather than appoint from afar.
The eight in a row Combined Counties champions decided to join the Leinster Senior League in a bid to progress to Intermediate football.
The ‘Sheriff of the CCFL’, who also won the Paddy Cotter Cup and the Counties Cup have been placed in the LSL Major Sunday 1 alongside fellow new LSL boys Collinstown and St Kevins.
And the Athlone will also retain a side in the CCFL and Pearse Hegarty, who has been a star player for the side over the last four seasons will now take over as manager.
Hegarty and his team replace the successful trio of Micheal Showery Jnr Harney, James Mullally and Austin Curry.
The Club confirmed on Facebook today:
“Willow Park FC would like to announce the appointment of Pearse Hegarty as our CCFL manager for the coming 2016/2017 season.
“This will be “Hedgo’s” 4th year at the club and has already produced many successes including a key role as part of our treble winning side of 2014/2015. Pearse is a true club man with a real passion for the game.
“We would like to wish him all the best as he takes the first steps of his managerial career and thank his family in advance for their patience and understanding.”
Declan Holohan will remain on as boss of the LSL side. Holohan along with Dave McGuinness and Tagh Carey have been in charge of the first team for the last three seasons and have deep roots in the club.
