LSL Senior Sunday
Greystones United AFC-1
Firhouse Clover were left with nothing to wine about as Carl Wynne sealed them a massive three points on Wednesday evening.
The flair player scored a last minute winner, as Clover came from behind against Greystones to dramatically claim victory in the proverbial six pointer.
The victory, the Tallaght sides first in four games moves them out of the relegation zone and leaves ‘Stones second from bottom, albeit Gary Dempsey’s men have games in hand over those around them.
Greystones were the better side in the first half, but only had a 10 minute Gary Dempsey peno to show for their dominance going into the break.
The hosts must have had some harsh words at half time because they came out for the second half a different animal.
They pegged the FAI Intermediate Cup semi finalists back and got due reward around the hour mark.
Peter Higgins made it three goals in two games and followed up his Man of the Match display in the Metro Cup win over Glenville with a leveler, as he glanced home Wynne’s delivery from a set piece.
While a point is better than nothing both sides went all out for the win and transformed into an end to end battle.
Considering the Firhouse were at home and drew their last three ties they would have been that bit more desperate for the win- and they were handed the chance to get it when Greystones were reduced to 10 men- a straight red for foul play on Darren Forsyth- and the referee pointed to the spot.
Wynne stepped up and buried the spot to win the game for the home side.
