Drumcondra managed to get one over on their old manager and register a crucial win at the same time on Tuesday night.
There was no happy return to Morton Stadium for Gary Howlett and a number of his Killester players as they went down to Drums in the midweek clash.
The single goal victory against the ten men of United not only seen the hosts move out of the bottom three it ensured they jumped as high as ninth.
The win had it’s roots in one moment in the first half. On 30 minutes Conor Mullins was pulled down in the box and the referee pointed to the spot and issued the visiting net minder a red a card.
Stephen Cantwell stepped up and slotted home his ninth goal of the season to give his side the lead.
It turned out that goal was enough to secure Drums a massive three points. Considering they have played more games than four of the five teams below them their safety fate isn’t quite in their own hands, but the victory is huge nonetheless.
